So, what the heck do you mean you’re a “coach”?

Okay. If you’ve been here a while, you know I’m a writer. I talk about writing a lot, and I recently launched my Patreon site where people can subscribe to get new, never-before-released writing from me every month. I’m pretty excited about it.

I am also, and have been since August 2015, a Beachbody coach. I’ve talked about this before, and this website used to have a “Wellness” tab on it (it now says “Beachbody Coach” and links you directly to my coaching site, much like “Patreon” links you directly to my patron-only writing site). Here’s what that tab used to say (with some updates and edits, of course)…

June 5, 2018

Even though I’m almost three years into my attempt to build better habits and generally take good care of myself, I will be honest and say I am still (or, at least, I still feel like…) a relative newbie when it comes to fitness and nutrition, but I’m trying to get better every single day, and I like having friends to do it with. And that’s why I’m a Beachbody Coach.

I thought about kicking off this post a different way — maybe with my wellness philosophy, or how I’m a “fitness accountability coach” or something — but I think you should know from the get-go that Beachbody products are something that (1) I use myself and (2) I am going to encourage you to use (or at least try), and since I’m a coach, if you see a link it means you’d be buying those products directly from me (hey, thanks!)

Get Started Now: 2B Mindset + BOD + Shakeology Challenge Pack

The link above? That’s my current secret to success. A secret I have no problem sharing loudly and proudly because, hello, the first month I put this combo into action, I lost eleven point four (11.4) pounds. In one month. And I feel strong, and I sleep better and my clothes fit better… Just look:

F.A.Q.

So, what do you do as a coach? Are you, like, a nutritionist or something?

I am not a nutritionist. I am not a certified personal trainer. I’m a woman who, in 2015, realized I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and decided, on a whim and as a last resort, to give Shakeology a try. I fell in love with it, and I fell in love with the Beachbody community.

The programs were convenient for me to stick to since they were in my living room and on my own schedule (And, they were fun. And, Shaun T is nice to look at. Not gonna lie.).

My husband started drinking Shakeology at the same time, and my coach (who is an old friend of mine from theater camp) pointed out to me that I could save money on our shipments by becoming a coach myself. She also pointed out that I was in our group every single day, commenting on posts and lifting people up, as well as sharing my own journey loud and proud on social media.

So that’s what I am as a coach. I’m your cheerleader, your accountability partner, your kick-in-the-ass, and your shoulder to lean on. My job as a coach is to bring you into a community of people who are working to better themselves through our challenge groups, and to provide one-on-one support for you as well. My job is to help you dream big, set crazy goals and reach them, and make your life better in any and every way possible.

But, like, I can buy Beachbody stuff on Amazon. Why would I work with you?

If you’re the “go it alone” type when it comes to health, fitness, and general wellness — the “I just want my stuff and want to be left to do it” — then by all means, go order from Amazon. These products are incredible and I’d rather everyone just use them, even if it means they’re not buying directly from me. Though, if you buy from Amazon, you’re going to be assigned a random coach anyway…so why not just work with someone you know? 😉

What I will provide to you as a coach, is attention. When you’re first getting started, Amazon’s not gonna be able to tell you which program best suits your long list of goals and lifestyle obstacles you’re trying to overcome. I mean, there’s a good recommendation engine, but it’s not the same as someone who knows you (or will get to know you through our coaching relationship). I provide resources I’ve created as well as resources I’ve adapted from working with an incredibly gifted team of other coaches.

Okay, you’ve been doing this a while. What Beachbody stuff have you done? Which programs, products, all that jazz?

I drink Shakeology. My personal favorite is the regular formula Chocolate, though I have taken a liking to the Vegan Cafe Latte as well.

The first program I completed from beginning to end was CIZE, and I’ve done it multiple times since. I’ve also dabbled and/or completed: Insanity Max:3021 Day Fix, Country Heat, PiYo, Core de Force, You v2, and TurboFire. (Why is that one big link? Because you can get them ALL with All Access to BOD!)

I also use the Beachbody Performance Line. I’m a HUGE fan of Energize, and I’ve also used Hydrate, Recover, and Recharge.

I’ve also completed the 3-Day Refresh three times, and in May 2018, I started the 2B Mindset which is an online nutrition course and a totally new way of looking at how we’re eating and thinking about food. It’s changing my life. Seriously.

Ew, Multi-Level/Network Marketing companies are gross. Aren’t they all pyramid schemes?

Honey, lemme tell you. I was the most anti-MLM person you’d meet, because I’d done two before and gotten BURNED by them. Sales quotas, recruitment requirements, inventory to stock…they were bullshit, and I hated them. (Sorry about the language, but if you’re gonna work with me as your coach, know that I’m going to swear sometimes.)

Here’s the definition of a pyramid scheme: “a form of investment (illegal in the US and elsewhere) in which each paying participant recruits two further participants, with returns being given to early participants using money contributed by later ones.

That ain’t what Beachbody is. In fact, it’s not what most MLM companies are, but there are some pyramid schemes that have paraded themselves *as* network marketing, so I understand where the hesitation and lingering stereotype comes from.

You pay for the products, and as a bonus, you’re given my time and support. That’s it. If you decide you want to build a business with Beachbody (or just get a discount on products) by becoming a coach yourself, you can, but you don’t have to, and you never have to recruit anyone else if you don’t want to.

If you really want to go into the nuts and bolts of the business side, or if you have any questions that I haven’t answered here, please use my Contact page and we can talk more.
